The Top 20

20. Jayden Elijah (6-7, 290) 2025 OL | Matawan Regional | Prior rank: Next 25 | 2025 class rank: 6 | Undecided

A future four-star with a NFL body, tool and athleticism, Jayden Elijah has arrived. Boston College became the first program to offer the two-sport star on Jan. 13 of his sophomore year, followed (in order) by Virginia Tech, Florida State, Nebraska, Michigan State, in-state Rutgers, Texas A&M and Penn State.

19. Miles O’Neill (6-5, 220) 2024 QB | The Hun School | Prior rank: Debut | 2024 class rank: 14 | Texas A&M

Miles O’Neill has always been big with a big arm and possessed tools that Power Five coaches seek but didn’t see his recruitment soar until announcing in May that he would transfer from Marblehead high in Massachusetts to the Hun School in Princeton to end his high school football career. Fast forward two months and O’Neill has verbally agreed to play for Texas A&M next spring while Penn State, Michigan State, Maryland, Pitt, UVA, Boston College and UConn, have also offered.

It will be fun to watch O’Neill build on his 2,300-plus total Yards, 28 total touchdowns and 72.3 percent completion rate that he procured last fall.

18. Jahmir Joseph (6-1, 185) 2025 DB | St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) | Prior rank: 33 (+15) | 2025 class rank: 5 | Undecided

A high-energy player with bounce on the hardwood, and a four-star recruit with a national offer list for football, Joseph is one of New Jersey’s top up-and-coming athletes, who holds early offers from Georgia, Penn State, Rutgers, Duke, Syracuse and Boston College, among others.

Joseph has good size and can outrun and jump most of his peers. He is physical, competitive, instinctive, and a ball hawk with good technique who projects as a big cornerback at the Power Five level. The rising junior made NJ.com’s all-Non-Public, third-team for football in 2022, and is one of the most highly-recruited DBs in the region due to his unique athletic tools.

17. Aidan Lynch (6-7, 285) 2024 OL | Mount Olive | Prior rank: Next 25 | 2024 class rank: 13 | Virginia Tech

Lynch, who grew five inches between his sophomore and junior years, committed to the Virginia Tech on June 12, and stuck with the Hokies over late efforts from Vanderbilt and Georgia — the first Power Five program to offer the 6-foot-7, 285-pounder before filling the position he was offered. Lynch is tethered to Blacksburg heading into his final high school football campaign despite holding 25 total offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Boston College, Nebraska, Pitt, Stanford, West Virginia, the aforementioned Bulldogs, Commodores and other programs.

16. D.J. McClary (6-1, 190) 2025 LB | Henry Snyder | Prior rank: Next 25 | 2025 class rank: 4 | Undecided

Few players in the state can run and hit like McClary, who has elite movement skills, a national offer list entering his junior year, and is a heat seeking missile when tracking the football. His 19 offers include Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech, Duke, Boston College, Illinois, Minnesota, South Carolina, Syracuse and in-state Rutgers.

15. Jaelyne Matthews (6-6, 290) 2025 OL | Toms River North | Prior rank: 10 (-5) | 2025 class rank: 3 | Penn State

An Under Armour All-American who was home schooled prior to high school, Matthews has all of tools that make a tall, young, athletic offensive tackles national recruits. His footwork, quickness, leg drive and ability to sustain blocks vastly improved from his freshman to sophomore years, showcasing how high his upside is. Now, Matthews is poised to make his next jump as he enters just his third year in the trenches despite already becoming so highly-regarded.

The impact Matthews had on the Mariners’ 14-0 season resulted in a Group 5 title and first-team, all-state honors for the rising junior, who could be in line for a fifth-star if he partakes on the camp circuit next offseason.

14. Owen Wafle (6-2, 290) 2024 DL | The Hun School | Prior rank: 19 (+5) | 2024 class rank: 12 | Michigan

His ex-teammate, and Rutgers four-star offensive lineman Jacob Allen, describes him as “thick with abs.” His dad played four years in the trenches at Duke. He has 11-inch hands and a 6-foot-10-inch wingspan. He wears a size-17 shoe and can dunk a basketball without a running start. Standing 6-foot-2 and 290 pounds. A four-star recruit with an offer list featuring the nation’s best Power five options, Wafle flipped from Notre Dame to Michigan on June 11, and is one of the region’s premier defensive line recruits heading into his final year in Princeton.

13. Yasin Willis (6-1, 220) 2024 RB | St. Joseph (Montvale) | Prior rank: 22 (+9) | 2024 class rank: 11 | Undecided

There is no tougher runner in the Garden State. Willis doesn’t care about his press clippings, number of offers, doing interviews or anything like that. He just loves to pound the rock and carry his team through his physical style of play, and with his leadership and fearlessness, leading to Power Five offers from Rutgers, Penn State, Pitt, Michigan, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky, West Virginia and Syracuse.

12. Willy Love (6-2, 200) 2024 DB | Eastside (Camden) | Prior rank: 13 (+1) | 2024 class rank: 10 | Undecided

A tall, talented skill player with good metrics and the versatility to play safety, linebacker and wide receiver in college, Willy Love is one of the brightest stars in the South Jersey, and he boasts the personality to match. Upwards of 20 programs, including Rutgers, Syracuse, Maryland, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Texas A&M and West Virginia, have offered the four-star recruit, who has yet to commit somewhere heading into his senior year.

11. Emanuel Ross (6-2, 190) 2024 DB | Red Bank Catholic | Prior rank: 38 (+27) | 2024 class rank: 9 | Stanford

Stanford’s fourth, final and highest-ranked pledge from New Jersey’s 2024 class, Ross has watched his profile climb significantly this year. A tall DB-slash-receiver, who can run, jump and hit, Ross has jumped more spots than any recruit this cycle, after adding an offer from Stanford — where he committed on June 7 — as well as offers from Illinois, Florida State, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, UCF, UVA and Tulane, since January.

The Top 10

These next 10 players, including two juniors, will duke it out to become New Jersey’s top football recruit by outshining the rest of the pack on the gridiron in their respective conferences next fall.

10. Gabriel Winowich (6-1, 215) 2024 ATH | Notre Dame | Prior rank: Debut | 2024 class rank: 8 | Rutgers

A Michigan transplant with nationally elite metrics, Winowich is big, fast, agile, is tough, and runs hard. He could play a number of roles at Rutgers, including safety, linebacker, running back and/or h-back when the four-star arrives on campus next spring.

“No prospect in our database posted a faster verified shuttle time last spring than Gabriel Winowich, who ripped off a blazing 3.98 at an Under Armour All-America camp,” said Rivals.com analyst Allen Trieu, who covers Midwest college football recruiting, and sees Rutgers’ potential difference-maker eventually playing on Sundays. “And it wasn’t some glitch, either. Minutes later, Winowich went 6.58 (seconds) in the three-cone drill, which happens to be the fastest time that we can find in that drill for a legitimate Power Five prospect in the class of 2024. Bottom line, Winowich can change direction like a future pro; each of those times would have ranked in the top five — regardless of position — at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.”

Winowich — who ventured east and joined future Rutgers quarterback, A.J. Surace, at Notre Dame this summer before they migrate to Rutgers together — doubled as a strong safety-slash-running back, who rushed for 887 yards at 9.3-yards per clip while scoring 12 touchdowns in six games in 2022. Winowich could get double the touches for the Irish, who will need every bit of them as they go for all the marbles, this fall.

9. A.J. Surace (6-1, 210) 2024 QB | Notre Dame | Prior rank: 32 (+23) | 2024 class rank: 7 | Rutgers

Surace, who Rivals.com national analyst Adam Friedman says could be in line for his fourth-star, made the top 10 following strong showings at the Elite 11 regional at Penn State and the ESPN 300 camp in New Jersey this spring. The son of a head coach, and a football lifer who grew up around the game, Surace completed 131-of-231 passes for 1,737 yards and 21 touchdowns (to only 6 INTs) for Notre Dame in 2022, and plans to build on those marks, and more importantly, his team’s win-loss record, this fall.

Michigan State, Northwestern, Duke, Indiana, Boston College, Pitt and Tennessee were some of his other Power Five options, but Surace, who has reinforced his body heading into his senior year, ended his recruitment on Feb. 5 when he called Greg Schiano and shared his plans to stay home.

8. Jaylan Hornsby (6-3, 195) 2024 WR | Winslow Township | Prior rank: 18 (+10) | 2024 class rank: 6 | Texas A&M

Hornsby, who will spend his senior year at Winslow Township after competing for Camden high as a junior, is a bouncy athlete with elite body control who stands out on the gridiron and hardwood for high-pointing the football and soaring through the air for explosive dunks, contorted finishes at the rim and shot blocks.

Hornsby caught 23 passes for 441 yards and two receiving scores to go along with 11 tackles, and three tackles for a loss in eight games on the gridiron last fall. Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, Maryland, Pitt and Illinois were some of his Power Five options, but on July 1, he picked the Aggies after being convinced by defensive line coach Elijah Robinson, who hails from Camden.

7. Jordan Thomas (6-5, 305) 2024 DL | Don Bosco Prep | Prior rank: 25 (+18) | 2024 class rank: 5 | Georgia

Thomas has the the measurables, agility and upside that Power Five coaches seek. Once he puts it all together, the sky is the limit. Coming off of the 2022 season where he made 31 stops and one tackle for a loss, and with Bosco being shutout 45-0 by Bergen Catholic in the Non-Public title game, the rising senior, and Georgia Bulldogs pledge, will be motivated to end his career on a high note.

6. Nyier Daniels (6-8, 360) 2024 OL | Bergen Catholic | Prior rank: 20 (+15) | 2024 class rank: 4 | Georgia

Daniels is a massive developmental offensive linemen with the size and tools required to be shaped into an elite player at the next level. After getting his feet wet as a first-time starter last fall, Daniels will embark upon a career with the national champion Bulldogs in 2024, where he hopes to fulfill his upside and be prepped to play on Sundays.

5. Jaylen McClain (6-0, 185) 2024 DB | Seton Hall Prep | Prior rank: 17 (+11) | 2024 class rank: 3 | Ohio State

A Buckeyes commit, McClain is a smart, disciplined, explosive, tough, physical cover-corner-type with long speed, who can really cover, leading to over 30 offers, including the super-elites like Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M. McClain, who plays mostly safety and worked in at receiver some last fall, is always in-phase, sets a hard edge and forces the action inside where there’s help, when out on an island. His 83 tackles from 2022 were a team-best.

4. Kaj Sanders (6-1, 185) 2024 ATH | Bergen Catholic | Prior rank: 26 (+22) | 2024 class rank: 2 | Rutgers

Sanders is a Swiss Army Knife at the high school level, and fans will get a better idea of that in 2023 when the Rutgers commit will start full-time on both sides of the ball in Oradell.

“This year, he is a home run hitter with the ball in his hands,” said Bergen Catholic coach Vito Campanile, last month. “He’ll be a two-way starter for us this year. He’ll be a focal point of our offense, and I don’t think a lot of people have seen that from him yet. I know coach Schiano has said to me that he can really go (run). He can really go, now. He flies. You’ll have some really nice highlights of him throughout the fall, knock on wood. He’s been doing some great stuff.”

3. Kamar Archie (6-1, 228) 2025 LB | The Hun School | Prior rank: 7 (+4) | 2025 class rank: 2 | Undecided

Just a rising junior, it feels like Archie has dominated at the Hun School for years. However, he still has two years of eligibility to exhaust before completing his high school campaign. That said, there aren’t more than two players on this list who one could draft higher overall Archie, who compares physically to five-star Dylan Moses coming out IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. in 2017.

A five-star recruit per NJ.com, and man-child who runs the rock as well as he deflates ball-carriers, Archie is just bigger, stronger, faster, and tougher than his counterparts despite the fact that more than half of his days at the Hun lie ahead of him.

2. Vaboue Toure (6-2, 185) 2024 DB | Irvington | Prior rank: 9 (+7) | 2024 class rank: 1 | Penn State

Of all of the skill players in New Jersey’s 2024 class, Toure is the best. He is one of the longest, the rangiest, and, arguably, the most skilled coming off a junior campaign that saw him accumulate 89 tackles, four interceptions, two scoop-and-scores, a forced fumble and two recoveries while playing among three other Power Five skill players, one class ahead of him, in Irvington. But, this is Vaboue’s — who could be Irvington’s leading receiver if coach Ashley Pierre needs him to be this fall — time.

1. Quincy Porter (6-3, 190) 2025 WR | Bergen Catholic | Prior rank: 11 (+10) | 2025 class rank: 1 | Undecided

Some recruits are just different. Porter is the first junior to be named New Jersey’s No. 1 recruit since Green Bay Packers edge Rashan Gary — who went on to become the nation’s consensus No. 1 high school football recruit as a rising senior — but Porter is just that good. Despite being a sophomore last fall, he was a man among boys in one of the nation’s top high school football leagues, leading the state’s No. 1 team and defending Non-Public A state champion in catches and receiving yards (682 on 32 grabs), yards per catch with a minimum of five catches (20.1), and receiving touchdowns with 10.

Playing on a stacked roster like the Crusaders boast, and with the attention lists like this will bring the primetime playmaker, it remains to be seen if he will get enough touches to show his full repertoire in 2023. But, the NJ.com-anointed five-star recruit, who could grow into a do-it-all flex tight end and match-up nightmare for linebackers, already has the build, skillset, work ethic, confidence and ever-growing credentials heading into his junior year to justify being crowned New Jersey’s high school football recruiting king.

Love his attitude! But, they looked sooo bad last season vs SJR. They have a loooong way to go. It's one thing to schedule top competition, but you need to win a few of those games once in a while.

I think he is at least trying to get his team to be in the big games. It does no good if you are going to be in Non-Public A & have to take the trip up the Parkway every November to get your head kicked in. He doesn't want to do the St. Augustine Shuffle. Talk a big game, beat up crap publics & then get annihilated come playoff time. 1st step is to at least have your team with a shot in the 2nd half. Build from there.
