Analysis of Westlake TX

Running the 6A Texas playoff gauntlet is no joke. I can guarantee you that if Westlake goes 16-0 and finishes number 3,5,7 or 9th nationally behind private traveling circuses not one fan, player, coach, or administrator from Westlake will lose a wink of sleep.

Yes it is

Very few teams have a gauntlet task in the Texas playoffs.  Westlake isn't one of them that's for sure

Something else for you.

What OOS public schools could run the tables through the likes of Duncanville, Westlake, Katy or North Shore, Allen or Carroll in one postseason?

We said a certain path. When did a team play all of the above in one playoff?

Everyone from Region 3 Division 1 has to go through both Katy and North Shore to potentially get out of the region.

That's not true.  Just look at last year for example,  Katy Division 2 and NS Division 1.

But let's say the above is true every season. How many times has it occurred where teams beat both of them in the same postseason?

Then they’ll have Westlake or Lake Travis for a semifinal.

Then they’ll have Duncanville, or Allen, or Euless Trinity or Carroll waiting for them at state.

I would like for you to name the non-powers that would have to run the tables in 6A Division 1 for Region 3 just to get to the semifinals.

I would like for you to name the teams from Texas that have had that route of teams in one playoff

I wouldn’t reference WL’s post season run as a gauntlet. To their credit they obliterated the teams like they should have though.

I'd liken it to saying, the 7th seed in the open would play, SJB/MD, followed by CC followed by SJB/MD and then play DLS

Literally ALL of the data here is pure fantasy, derived entirely from one (1) individual's self-programmed computer model. Nothing seen here is objective fact. It's like a painful flashback to the dreadful Covid models used to lock society down for a year and a half. 🤮

Last season CP predicted MD to beat DV by 45. They won by 42.

Mallard Creek? They were 783rd nationally last year. Went 6-5. How is anyone suppose to see where Buford stands on that one?

Just my opinion but you might wanna tone down the “OOS or nothing” rhetoric because it could rub people the wrong way. And what if your criticism gets back to coaches at Westlake or Jesuit? Keep everything neutral.

Facts. While there are egomaniacal coaches who love to promote/sell their teams to the media, and like ball-washing exercises like those we've seen in the interviews posted here, there are still A LOT of coaches as this level who are nothing like that. And sometimes they have powerful teams. There isn't necessarily a blanket opposition to playing major OOS games. But, there IS an opposition to getting caught up in loud mouth promotion contests, dealing with fast-talking hustlers trying to grab a bit of glamour and attention for themselves. There's an old tradition in some parts where coaches intentionally (sometimes to the point of being humorous) speak poorly of their teams so as to either get opponents to take them lightly, or to take media pressure off the team. Of course, a hustler from Jersey knows nothing of this.

When you start entire threads dedicated to announcing "news" (meaning player transfers to the school, college commitments) and promotional materials for *some* schools (like Clearwater Academy International), and start other threads only intending to denigrate others (Westlake and Lakeland being two examples that come to mind), the agenda starts to become apparent.

Sometimes, the difficulty appears to be overrated. But, I think you underrate it some, too. For one thing, the sheer number of games a team has to win is not insignificant. Physically and psychologically, it is a challenge to be "up" for that many games.

I remember many years ago, third round of playoffs, Lakeland went down to Ft. Lauderdale and won a classic battle on STA's home field. Came back up for a home game the next week against a nobody Estero. Team was banged up and flat, and suffered one of the bigger upset losses in state history. Make no mistake, beating Estero at home was the WAY easier task than winning on the road at STA. It wasn't the degree of difficulty of that particular game, it was the difficulty of playing so many games in a row that you had to be up for.

Many of the teams discussed here have entire seasons of 8-12 games...total. In Texas, you have to play 16. That none of the excess teams on those schedules are any better than some particular opponent does not tell all of the story. I maintain DLS would have never had the win streak it had if they had to play 15 or 16 games in a season, even if none of the added teams were better than the best team they beat in a given year.

What's the use of playing 16 games annually if the outcomes of 12 of them are already always predetermined? This has been debated many times. Way too many teams make the playoffs in TX. Not blaming the state, though, as this phenomenon has taken over America in every sport. #participationtrophies

Guys like you really don’t appreciate what it takes for some teams to dominate at a level they do, so you assume games are meaningless. WL won’t always be the top, a matter of fact I think next year they fall back a bit. There is nothing participatory about any of the Texas state titles when you understand many of these teams don’t just automatically reload. A lot of work goes into creating a dynasty

The opponent has to be able to beat you. You can play 16-30 games,  but if those teams have no chance at winning or a very small chance you're not losing barring a ton of injuries or a ton of fumbles

Estero in 1998 was a finalist in Florida. Losing twice(Lost the finals to osceola) all season long.

DLS would've had a longer winning streak playing 16 games against their local competition. Those teams didn't have a chance outside of Pitt in 95. I don't think DLS from 96-03 had an opponent in their local area that was a true top 10 Cali team.  Many will say San Leandro but San Leandro didn't beat anyone outside of that local area either to prove themselves.

A top team will have destroyed most of those teams by halftime or early 3rd quarter

The pollsters are starting to take note of the annual, low SOSs in TX. Hence, why CP only has two TX teams in its Preseason T20 (Guyer #10, DV #19). Those weak performances vs IMG and MD have evened the playing field and woken up the masses.

I don't think that hurt Texas. Outside of STA, IMG and SFA I don't think any State's top teams would've fared much better.

You're being too sensitive again. We all know where STA stands nationally. Remember, they beat SJB a few season ago and have dominated FL for years. Buford plays Thompson AL and Mallard Creek NC early on so we'll see where they stand rather quickly. And their in-state dominance at every level is unprecedented. In the end, it's not where you start....

Servite would have gone 3-0 vs Buford the last three seasons.   Probably would beat them this year as well.   Mallard Creek is no Mission Viejo.   You are jaded when it comes to evaluating actual on the field performance of programs.

For you it’s Tier 1 and then everyone else is a beauty contest based on who does the most biz with PGL.

They’re waking up? CP had WL #2 last year lol!  If you ever make a valid point it will be the first time. There are 3 Texas teams in the CP top 25.  Maxpreps has 5 in the top 25, 2 in the top 10.

Still waiting on your posts on why teams like Los alamitos or Santa margarita are in the top 25, but we know you’re too aloof to do any relevant journaling

Have no business in a top 25 right now.  They have to prove they belong there

2022 is a different season with new players and expectations. Buford is starting in the middle of the pack at #13. We'll know more after the Thompson game on 8/19 on Flo!

I agree, but want to see GSB’s analysis on it. He alway has something to say about Texas but is silent on anyone else.

I also question any rankings, CP, that has Guyer #1 in Texas. Not even close

You act as if you say things that are profound.  Every single team we will see what they are made of eventually.  That really goes without saying

They have Guyer #1 in Texas. Hardly an insightful pick.  They’ll adjust a hell of a lot when the season progresses

Nobody on Earth knows this yet.

It’s a terrible pick because they really don’t know 💩 about the programs, players or coaches. Not a damn thing. They aren’t putting eyes on programs during the spring or summer. Hell, they probably took the program info off the Dave Campbell magazine   😂
