IMG was on another level.  we had some bright spots and some nice plays here and there but just didn't have the horses to hang.  one nice long offensive drive for us but otherwise didn't find much rhythm there.  our running game didn't look very good at all but deuce can sling it.  defensively, we did as well as I think we could but if we took the wrong angle at all, they were gone.  I just dont think our kids are used to having so many kids that are that fast on the field at once.  most of their scores were big plays, not long drives.  too many penalties didn't help at all.  we got some work to do before saraland!

anyway, it was a beautiful night so start the season and hopefully, we make some adjustments and keep getting better.  only 1 injury I saw and hopefully it's not serious.

DL is still a legit top 25 team. It went about like I thought it would (I predicted a 42-14 score). IMG is in the upper elite category. Kudos for taking them on. Just don’t overlook Saraland next week. They won’t be a pushover.

yeah, im on coachT also.  they (alcoa) very much get their identity in trying to beat maryville and now west, powell, etc.  out of area doesnt matter.  lots of area rivalries in east TN.  very passionate fanbase!

Yes, they made it quite clear that playing out of the area was not what they wanted. This was years ago, though, when the national scene was beginning to surge into what it is today. I used to post on CoachT quite a bit, but I was always more interested in the national scene. (I used to love competing in the Big Ones contest).

Alcoa/Maryville is probably the best rivalry in East Tennessee, but the Tornadoes always seemed to step up more than Maryville when it came to scheduling tougher out-of-area teams.

FWIW, i've heard oakland passed on playing lipscomb after that close game.

I also wish the east TN teams would travel more.  maryville and alcoa are capable of playing better teams but seem content just playing the best in their area and calling it good.  at least alcoa is playing ravenwood (decent 6A) and an OOS team (although they dont look very good).  alcoa is top 5 public teams regardless of classification, IMHO.

Oakland backed out because they knew what Lipscomb was going to turn into. They didn’t want to get embarrassed.

I went round and round with some of the old timer Maryville guys years ago on CoachT. They were so old fashioned about only playing local area teams and were flat out against playing anyone OOS. I couldn’t get those dense boneheads to realize that Maryville was the flagship team for Tennessee and should try to venture out and test their mettle. They just didn’t get it.

Alcoa, on the other hand, was, at least, scheduling some of the top small school Kentucky teams back then. If I remember correctly, they played Corbin,KY back in those days.

still on the schedule last I heard.  I think TN has some descent OOS games this year.  I think this is more than recent years, isn't it?

i didn't comb through all the team but here are a few...

alcoa - totenville, NY, union county, GA

baylor - seton hall, NJ, archbishop stepinac, NY, life christian academy, VA

lipscomb - IMG, saraland, AL, christian bros, MO

mccallie - woodward academy, GA, st xavier, OH

    oakland - cedar grove, IN

some notable missing schools - brentwood academy, CPA, MBA, maryville, west (knoxville)

Lipscomb’s all-star team is taking it to the next level with IMG. We’ll find out if they are nationally legit real quick.
I like what McCallie and Baylor are doing this year.
Alcoa could’ve scheduled a better out-of-state opponent than Tottenville,NY. (Union Co. is a local region game. Union Co. is in Maynardville,TN) The Tornadoes do have a tough in-state schedule, though.
Oakland is playing Center Grove on the road up in Indiana. They get props for that game.
I, too, am disappointed that BA and MBA aren’t playing any OOS comp. Maryville never takes on anyone from OOS. They are always too scared to do that.

    “Damatha”

Lol. That’s gonna be some bulletin board material

Trinity could be an interesting game if the Shamrocks are any good this year (not sure what they have coming back). They are hit and miss every year….

MI can host anyone, but can only travel 300 from its border. Cass accommodated SJR, who could only travel by bus for this game.

So, Bitchigan will play any national power outside of their Midwest region, but ONLY in the comfy confines of their home field. They won’t return the favor for whoever that team may be? Weak sauce!!

So SJB gets penalized for not playing a team (IMG) which the CIF won't allow them to play.

But MC gets a pass for canceling a game (Ducking) with MD for no reason at all.

    Got it.

Based on your criteria, MC should have their Natty revoked.

MC wins 1 game in August which qualifies them for your natty.   Dumb.

Forgive my ignorance, the CIF won’t let them play IMG but they can play STA (also a recruited up private)? Also, they can play SFA, right? SFA and IMG are identical types of schools. If I’m wrong about SFA, I apologize.

MC and BG are in talks to play in Vegas on 9/1. Both teams desparately need this game as neither has an elite OOS opoonent on its schedules as of today. Without this game, neither team is likely to start out in the top 5 of our Preseason Top 25 Poll. Fingers crossed.

Isn’t Corona Centennial coming to Vegas? Plus, you shouldn’t rank teams based solely on their schedules. That’s your glaring fault when it comes to rankings, my brother.

11-0 in VA is nothing to sneeze at. The RIchmond area has some ballers. And BC recently proved that Hoban isn't close to elite #runningclock

Two years ago a top 15 BC team routed a decent Hoban team en route to an undefeated NJ championship. Also, swept DBP along the way. BC was just that good that year.

Richmond Benedictine, Woodberry Forest and the like are not ballers. Those were the best teams Trinity Episcopal played last year.

    Like I said, Hoban 49-7.
