  1. Good job posting the composite ranking. You are getting the word out on why this is important. I don't think a lot of HS fans know about the different Selectors. I've seen Gorman fans are fixating on MaxPreps because MP is big in social media space but they are only one. Most Selectors have been around 10 years at least. It's good that HS football has this many that have been ranking for a decade or more. Different approaches are good. Until there is some sort of playoff, HS Football will look more and more like College football used to look before the BCS era.
  2. No argument there! Especially for the HS teams that truly can and want to be in the MNC debate. I hope the trend will continue for the top 25-50 perennial HS national teams to play more OOS matchups. That will help, statistically, a bit over time. Shoot, my kid is at one of those top programs in the debate and the national respect does matter there too! But, for right now, more Selectors (9) are better for the standard deviation.....so to speak.
  3. For Massey, it's how his algorithm weights the Offensive Power to Score that pulled MD down and raised De Soto and Duncaville. The TX bias is primarily that variable and the numberer of games TX teams play in a season. Massey does not provide the "weight" to SoS that other Selectors do. Massey's HS ranking algorigm skews the math towards the variable of offensive scoring figuring that over time it is a better predictive determinate of HS football winning results. Given the total points and number of games the two TX teams played (and others 5 TX teams in his top 20), you can see the trend at the end.
  4. Ah, I just found it. Creekside v. Coffee was the 5A championship game. I'm sure Mater Dei would love to play more GA teams!
  5. Hats off to Creekside. They went out to So Cal and played Mater Dei (because Bishop Gorman backed out). Lost to Coffee in championship game. What GA division was that game?
  6. Are you missing SB Live/Sports Illustrated Top 25 in your composite? https://highschool.si.com/national/2023/11/06/sblive-sports-illustrated-top-25-national-high-school-football-rankings-bishop-gorman-tops-final-2023-regular-season-rankings#gid=ci02cdb0f3d00027b3&pid=3-img-academy-bradenton-fla-9-0
  7. Hey there. I like the debate here. The problem for Gorman is they shouldn’t be rewarded for backing out of MD for a game against LBP. Gorman backed out to play against a weaker team. Gorman knows the upside and the downside of playing MD. It’s MD. Poly didn’t even make make the CIF D1 bracket this year and lost to Servite in D2 playoffs. Gorman couldn’t know that earlier in the season but knows there is no debate if you play MD. Gorman is a program who plays for the MNC. They gambled when they shifted their schedule. Nobody can be taken seriously if they hang their hat onGorman beating Cen10 by by more points than Bosco or MD. Or, even a coaches opinion on who was the “better” team between them. Gorman has the ability but not the motivations to ply MD or Bosco this year. That’s weak. And, Cen10 should be rightly rewarded for their record because of SOS. The human pollsters should reflect rankings that are a bit tighter to the algorithms. An undefeated schedule and only one out of state game against a “power team” is not a strong enough criteria any longer when you consider, for example. the CIF D1 and D2 teams rankings this year. Maybe Florida or Georgia or Texas will benefit next year in the same way. But those few teams that can and should be considered every year for the MNC are separating from the pack as HS football is changing. If you want to see more national matchups then the undefeated weighting has to mean less. But, I’m the first guy to appreciate the diversity of approaches to the rankings from Massey to National HSFB. Ultimately, Frank McManus called out Gorman last night and the Bosco win. Will Gorman answer the challenge?
