  1. Steeler these aren’t zoned schools. A kid at BA doesn’t have to come from just la puente. He can come from any city within LA county. Smh I brought up the Bakersfield kid to show that distance and time is not a barrier to where kids transfer to…keep up
  2. 150 miles away!! Lol. And no steeler his move was not due to just covid. From the article: “…That pursuit of academic and athletic excellence — coupled with the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic — has led to some unexpected opportunities.
  3. LA county includes la puenta, that’s why I highlighted it. You don’t have to guess steeler, the school knows more than you where they get students from, so it’s not a bridge too far to think they get athletes from those places too
  4. This is an excerpt out of a NYT piece “Kerry persuaded his mother, Erin Miller, to let him transfer to Mater Dei, believing that it might help him earn a college scholarship. For five months, Miller woke at 3 a.m. and drove her son 150 miles down Interstate 5 to Santa Ana, …” That’s a hell of a commute !!
  5. I don’t know the exact number, but according to MDs website they have a big countywide footprint “Students represent 184 zip codes from five counties in Southern CA: Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego.”
  6. Yes steeler, it’s about recruiting. Some Kids drive farther to attend MD and SJB. Using your logic why would they ever leave any locals schools and travel a distance to attend other schools, but yet we have evidence of it
  7. One doesn’t have to drive, they can take a bus. They don’t live in isolated, rural communities. Do you know how common it is for kids throughout the country to travel hours to school?
  8. My point is the schools are in close enough proximity to each other. They’re not that far apart and neither are those cities to la puente
  9. I said at a minimum thats what’s done. Did I say it wasn’t that way in Texas? You guys are the ones running around thinking MD and SJB do it by outreach; playing OOS games and location…because that’s what was said in this thread Smh
  10. Steeler, the simple answer is as a minimum; players, parents, boosters, youth league and 7on7 coaches and others close to these programs do the recruiting. It’s not some new angle Rollinson and Negro schemed up to get kids on campus. they hit these groups early and hard so that by 8th grade “shadow day” they have already been groomed/marked by these school handlers
  11. You should know Texas is it’s own world. It’s never going to be defined by OOS critics or play.
  12. my gaud man they are both experiencing a relatively recent surge in talent. They didn’t change locations in the past 15 years!
  13. And how do those kids get interested in the 8th grade what school they want to attend for shadow day? Lol So you think mater dei and SJB have developed a system of attracting talent without recruiting that even colleges don’t use? 😂
  14. MD did nothing spectacular from 1999-2016 with the same HC. They didn’t just magically get better with scheduling. Those Cali schools were losing to BG on a regular basis. So in their talking to players and parents, what were their early selling points?
  15. So if all Cali privates all operate on the same principle, then how come MD and SJB consistently get better talent than Bishop Amat, Santa margarita and the jserra types? Private schools in Texas play in a secondary, inferior league than publics, so they don’t attract the same level or amount of talent. Not the same in Cali
  16. 👇🏽 This is a lawyer speak way of saying: recruit! 😂
  17. No, I said monopolizing the local, state talent makes them the same. MD didn’t win any titles from 2000-2016, so what major change was there in the program from then to what they are doing now? They’ve had the same HC for all of that period
  18. MD didn’t win any state titles from 2000-2016, their spike in talent happened around 2015 or so, why? (they had the same HC for the previous 2 decades)
  19. You said there was no way they were the same, that’s not true. I choose my words purposely, I said what I said. I don’t care how the talent gets on campus, the similarity between the programs is in the monopoly they have on the talent. Why did kids start flocking to MD and SJB in your view?
  20. They are the same in that they have found a way to monopolize the amount of talent in the state . I don’t know why you guys can’t be honest about this instead of trying to convince us on these boards that the talent at those schools is routine/common place matriculation do you know how much of the top 20 talent in Cali, for the past 4 years, has gone to MD and SJB?
