  1. Servite hasn't been the same since QB Leo Hannan (a Michigan State commit) was injured early in game #3. Their QB situation got worse when the 2nd string QB transferred to Yorba Linda in mid-season. Hannon tried to come back in the Orange Lutheran and Santa Margarita blowout losses, but just wasn't himself. That just left the freshman 3rd string QB who is a very good runner, but will need to work on his passing (O TDs and 4 interceptions), and learn to protect the football. Servite's first four possessions ended in an interception, a lost fumble, and two turnover-on-downs. I was hoping for a D-II playoff berth, or, failing that, no playoffs berth at all. I was hoping against hope that Leo Hannan would be back at (or near) full strength this week, but when I saw that he wasn't, I figured our season would end against Sierra Canyon. Congratulations to Sierra Canyon, and good luck against Mater Dei next week.
  2. Happy 60th Anniversary to Marcus Woods, Rick Aschenbrenner, Jim Sheridan, Tony Pena, Phil Messer, Bill Holden, Mike Meers, Riley Shinnefield, John Hemmon, Frank Daley, Bill Halligan, and so many more, including Head Coach George Dena, and to all the fans of the 1964 Servite Varsity Football Team living and dead. Happy 60th Anniversary of Servite's first ever victory over Mater Dei Football on October 29th 1964 by the score of 13-0, which led to Servite's first Angelus League Varsity Football Championship. Pain heals, chicks dig scars, but glory lasts forever!
  3. Yes they did! It's the first time in 21 meetings that the Lancers have ever held Servite scoreless. Previous lowest Servite point production against OLU was 14. Leo Hannan returned to share time at QB. Largely ineffective, and wasn't inclined to run the ball, although he did have a 4th and 8 designed QB Draw at the OLU 16. It was wide open, and Leo went down (untouched), as soon as he had first down yardage after a nine yard gain to the OLU 7. Unfortunately, the refs gave him a really lousy spot, short of the 8 yard line. Turnover on downs, and Servite never got that close again. His passing was limited to short passes (often for little or no gain on the plays). I'm guessing that was designed to minimize the chance of his being reinjured by the pass rush. Hopefully he can be more effective with another week to practice and heal. Santa Margarita got Mosely back this week (3TDs), so Leo will be needed to be at his best, or as close to it as possible. Servite will finish 4th in the Trinity League (assuming that JSerra loses to a very angry Bosco team), it's just a question of whether its outright 4th, or a tie for 4th.
  4. Carr is over 100 yds so far, including a 60 yd run on the TD drive.
  5. QB Leo Hannan was injured in the first quarter against Chaminade. So he's been out now for 3 and 3/4 games, (plus the bye week), yet most reports say he still doesn't look like he's close to coming back. Servite's HC still says he's day to day. Sportswriter Steve Fryer says they might consider saving him for the DII playoffs?
  6. Update from Dan Albano: Football: Servite QB Leo Hannan is "day to day" after a lower leg injury v Chaminade, per Friars coach Chris Reinert.
  7. Yeah, thank you. The win last night probably guarantees a 5-5 record, which would be 6th place in the crazy good Trinity League. But we need Leo Hannan to have any hope of upsetting any TL team(s).
  8. Servite QB Leo Hannan knocked out of the game in the 1st quarter. Servite limps to a 14-0 win over Chaminade behind its running attack and the play of both the O-line and the Defensive front 7. I haven't heard any news about Hannan's condition, but I think it was a leg or foot injury.🥺
  9. I'd say the jury is still out on that one, due to QB Longstreet being out this week. We won't know until mid season just how good they can be.
  10. A few observations about Servite's win: It definitely looked like Servite's opening game...lots of penalties early in the game, and the Friars missed 4 out of 7 PATs. Also...Servite's kicker failed to have even one touchback in seven tries, with one ending up out of bounds. Servite was projected to win something like 42-14, but if they hadn't pulled many of the star offensive skill players at halftime, it could have been 70-0. Friar QB Leo Hannan was 14 for 16 for 223 yards and 5 TDs to five different receivers, with zero INTs, for a QB rating of 166.7...all in the first half. This Friar team may be the biggest team they've ever had. There are 18 players 250 lbs. or larger, 6 of whom are 300-345 lbs. Plenty of height also with 14 players between 6'3" and 6'7". Lots of depth for the OL, DL and LBers. The Friars are, however, a very young team so the future is bright. But inexperience is the downside of that. Probably 5th or 6th and hopefully a long run again in the D2 playoffs.
  11. Trinity League went 5-1 this week. Most impressive win was J Serra 35-7 over Sierra Canyon Bosco's win over Chaminade-Madonna 34-27 was a solid win and, I think, a bit of an upset. Mater Dei 42-25 over Centennial, Orange Lutheran 21-13 over Serra of Gardena, and Servite 45-0 over East of Salt Lake City, all went about as expected. Santa Margarita/ Mission Viejo was thought to be a toss-up, but a 7-35 loss for Santa Margarita was surprising margin.
  12. Not sure what qualifies as "quality/top notch talent," but Bosco did get a good one from Servite in Ethan Naudin. At 6'1" 185 last year, Naudin caught 19 passes , for 455 yards and 3 TDs. He led the team in yds./rec at 23.9 yds. per catch.
  13. Hudl is new and improved, and they show the following schedule for Servite. 8/16 vs Aquinas (probably a scrimmage like last season). 8/23 vs East HS (Salt Lake City) 8/30 @ Murrieta Valley 9/6 @ Chaminade 9/13 vs Notre Dame 9/20 Bye 9/27 vs. St Paul 10/4 @ J Serra 10/11 vs Mater Dei 10/18 vs. SJ Bosco 10/25 @ Orange Lutheran 11/1 @ Santa Margarita
