What do these top players have to gain by participating? In the case of Marcus Harris (which I have not heard anything from MD folks about him doing this), he has offers from everybody and can pick his school. By playing in this league, he is only exposing himself to an increased chance of injury. I see this as an unnecessary risk for a kid such as this.

But I can see kids that have yet to receive offers doing this an opportunity for recruiters to get more looks at them.

Marcus Harris is not playing in it, in fact he didn't even now his name and likeness was be used to promote this game, which I have a feeling Harris isn't the only one. What I found fishy, was the fact not one player's social media was tagged or listed their handles (X account), on those nice graphics promoting their commitments to the game. Yet this league is to start next week?? and not one California kid has confirmed to play nor has the California media has written anything about it. And I believe California kids would have to get CIF approval, or forfeit their upcoming senior season, knowing the way CIF works, they wont allow the formerly known as Geico OOS championship after the state games.

This all for what 2-6 games? Not worth it.

I spent dozens of hours assisting Cen10 get to this point. I would've preferred that they scheduled an elite team like SJP, but you can't always get whay you want. For that reason Cen10 will probably start just outside our Preseason Top 10 rankings.

Centennial should be ranked no higher than 25 going into this season, and that's being generous, Husan Longstreet is all they have and a few OL. Not much in elite skills on their lower levels. They get about 10 spots higher for just having Logan as a HC. Let them earn it to get to a national mid Top 20 ranking.

Doesn't make sense that they'd bend the rules for a 3* QB from AZ.

True, Mater Dei has turned away more senior transfers than you can imagine. For some reason, MD doesn't take Senior OC transfers. If its been a senior, its been OOS, or out of county.

Sucks if true. If he does transfer I hope one of the current freshmen beat him out. We got a junior transfer also from Washington.

No chance the sophomores beat him out. Ive stated it before - MD has too many big time skills to put in the hands of inexperience guys when they didn't show enough during they're FR season. Unfortunately if MD didn't have top skills, and play a national schedule, you could get away with allowing the sophomores develop more so, But MD is a national brand, no matter how you put it. Playing at that high level requires certain skills sets. Based on what was seen on the field with the sophomore QBs certainly not ready to roll the dice with all the skills. Most will call it unfortunate that MD is a national brand, but it is what it is. Or they could go the route of OLU and play that similar schedule and struggle and get beat up.

And the junior QB from Washington - he came to MD by chance, family moved to area and inquired about MD. There's a reason why no one heard about him, until he enrolled show up to 6 period football. Despite being a varsity QB in Washington, he's on no ones radar. But based on his film, he's slightly above average no much better than the sophomore QBs, except he has varsity experience, but at what level??

Will see what happens, its a long season. Though I know the days of develop, wait your turn are gone, but some still hold to that mantra. Its just hard to find.

So you have OLu finishing 3rd in the TL over SM?

At this time its a coin flip for me between SM and OLU, but too early to tell. SM defiantly will have more teams speed than OLU. Each team has holes its needs address. By the time OLU and SM square off in week 8, OLU could be beat up playing that schedule.  I See OLU going no better than 4-6, 5-5 AT BEST... and that will get them in D2, beating JSerra and Servite in league, maybe SM, but they sure will get that SOS on their side.

SM has secured several xfers of quality this offseason. And losing to MD and SJB won't hurt them just like it never hurts Cen10.

Santa Margarita several transfers aren't quality enough to be a nationally rated sleeper. None, except Jonah Smith would move the needle. Santa Margarita has too many holes to replace on defense to be mentioned. They need to earn their national rating and not be given preseason national status based on their transfers. Especially based on their previous season. Like a couple of seasons ago, the offense should be interesting, but can they get a defense to stop anyone will be the question.

You are right about OLU - That schedule is over their head. And its built for one thing and one thing only - to prep them for MD and Bosco. They lacked team speed last year, and it showed, but they will have experience, but thats a tough schedule to play when you don't have the dudes.

Reminder that three pollsters (ESPN, SBLive, USAT) had SJP ranked higher than SJB in their final rankings. Discounting (and avoiding) IMG is not a smart decision. It doesn’t bother you that the CIF is only the state association in America that doesn’t permit its high school teams to maximize their potential in such a way?

The majority of high school football fans believe that a MNC should be undefeated.

Strength of schedule needs to be heavily factored in MNC and playing 1-2 teams outside the National Top 15-20 doesn't satisfy vs a team who strength of schedule is obvious (3 teams inside the Top of 15, 2 teams inside the top 30).  This year, Both IMG and Gorman SOS was the weakest its been. When SOS is so glaring obvious, I think there's an exception for a team having one loss vs being undefeated with a lacking SOS. This isn't always the case, but this year it was and it should have had consideration.

I was told by the coaching staff that 6-7 defensive starters did not play the first half as punishment for being late to a team meeting. Have no idea which seven they were. In the end there's no denying it was a tale of two halfs.

Well, that may have been the intent, but I think that went out the door when they all came in after 3 plays, and film doesn't lie - technically they did sit - for the first three plays. I listed who was out, clear as day.

You’re over-analyzing. If those seven defensive starters aren’t suspended for the first half, SJB beats KAH 40-14ish.

Bosco didn't have seven defensive starters out for the first half.

It was the first three plays of the game ONLY!

When Kahuku started moving the ball, they ALL came in on that 4th down, to which Kahuku converted the 1st down. The guys who didn't start for those first three plays - #27 Kyngstonn Viliamu-asa, #15 Jordan Lockhart, #41 Dutch Horisk, #6 Kimori House.  -  If you watch that game, they all played the remainder of the game.

So if you're justifying your rankings based on thinking Bosco had 7 defensive starters out?? You better re-evaluate, because that did not happen.

You really think tonight's game is going to be easier for SJB than last week's Friendship Academy game? I think not.

SFA defense will challenge SJB offense, but SFA offense is going to have a hard time doing anything against Bosco. Bosco defense will have an easier time vs SFA offense than they did vs Friendship for that first quarter.

  11. @GardenStateBaller No one has mentioned if the MD SFA game will be on TV or streamed? Its not on FLOs schedule..Is it?. You would think this game of all games would be a televised game. Why is it, that ESPN seems to bypass the OOS MD games. Ever since the Gorman game, ESPN chose not to add the St. Johns, Duncanville and now SFA game to its schedule? Instead featuring teams that have players in their Top 300, vs showing games with better match ups. They are more concerned about indivdual players in their Top 300. The lone west coast game is Carlsbad vs Cathedral Catholic. What a ho hum game, CC isn't the same CC, and Carlsbad is featured because of QB Julian Sayin.

Well, I'd love to argue with you about this but for some reason Servite never reported any stats from their games last year. They were always slow to report during the Thomas years. Sometimes they were as much as 3 games behind in their reporting, but in 2022 they never DID report any stats. MaxPreps has nothing. The OC Varsity never showed any stats for Servite except what appeared in their game reports for the few Servite games they covered (which was almost none in Servite's all time worst season ever). Not much interest in a 1-9 team.

I just hope Quaid's family kept some stats. Very important for someone who stands to be a 3-year starter for the Friars.

Yes I understand Servite didn't report stats, but he ran for nearly 400 yards last season and when you watch Servite's games that number is about right. He's a solid back - Like I said - he didn't show enough to warrant that ranking going into this season, thats all - Lets see if he can double the production.

Being a 3 yr starter doesn't say much for whats become of Servite, from a media standpoint, but I do think they will be better than last years 1-9, how much will be the question.

And Servite has only one RB on that top ten list.

    6. Quaid Carr, Servite: The 6-foot, 175-pound junior showed his breakaway speed last fall and landed an offer from Utah in June. Look for him to showcase his receiving skills as well.

And unfortunately, That ranking is way too high and really he shouldn't be on that list. He hasn't done enough or shown enough to warrant and a Utah offer doesn't justify it. Thats all he has is breakaway speed, but he never could put it together. Let's see if he can this year, but with what line? That is going to be hard to do.

  14. I can see it now.. does a one-loss, even a two-loss MD/Bosco/SFA/IMG team over take and undefeated Gorman for the title and top spot when its all said and done??  Seems like no-way Gorman can claim a title with the schedule they have? BUT some other ranking system will award them that MNC..  if it happens..

True, and those are much tougher than most of SJB's, but they will have also traveled to STA.  I'm just not sold on their O with Sanchez.

I agree.. SJB trenches are no where near the level they are used to. Right now, SJB rankings are based on their past success and its program. They're still solid, but no elite OL/DL linemen, best OL committed to SMU.. none of their other OL have offers or being highly recruited and their potential starting DL, goes 6-5 220, 6-2 240, 5-10 285.. just to put in perspective .. Its just a far cry from the past few teams.. so I would have started them no higher than #5.

  16. mm. not sure I see Cen10 among top 11-20.. Closer to 25-30. Cen10 gets rated higher these days based on what they've done as overall program. They are still solid, but their rating the past few years has been inflated. They needed a few key transfers to be among the discussion of "competing" with MD and Bosco this season. If not for these guys  and a few more depth transfers, Cen10 is irrelevant this year from a national scene.

Anybody take look at 247 top 300 recruits for 2023.  Cal has less than GA and barely head of small states like Louisiana

    way behind Texas and Florida.

more proof that state has fallen on hard times.

110% convinced the Cali would not have any elite teams without recruiting!!!

Take a look at CA 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes. Those classes will top the 2023 class. The 2023 class was a down year for Cal.. Prime example , look at MD they're led by 24, 25 kids.

  18. I too have Gorman rated higher than anyone other than MD, going into this year - based on play on field and what they have returning for this coming season. Gorman returns enough at the key spots to justify it.

    1. MD, 2. Gorman, 3. IMG, 4. SFA, 5. St. John Bosco..

MD returns 18 starters. Need to replace two on the OL, and one MLB.

Gorman does lose Branch and their alot of their secondary, but OL and QB, RB and TE were big time last year and all are back, will carry them.

Bosco, has to break in a new QB, and WRs will be young, inexperienced, they only return 2 starting OL, need to replace the defensive line. It will be interesting to see how they replace the OL, they don't have elite level lineman in their lower levels/program. They will be solid at RB, LB and in the Secondary. But they don't have enough to be rated top 4, going in. Will see when they play these games.

SFA doesn't return any key WRs, but added two WR transfers and a RB transfer. They have one returning OL, but do have depth but inexperience. Its their defense that returns 8 starters and tons of depth. Van Burren at Qb and Williams at RB are the key skill returners.

But it's going to nice to see, that for the first time I can recall, the potential top 5 will play one another or a common opponent, something haven't seen til this season. Come Tuesday, you'll see the top game of the season will be finally released.

Wonder why Maxpreps did not include the game if it is confirmed? Makes me nervous that it won’t happen. Isn’t it the same week as the Trinity vs USA event? I’m glad we play them at the Bowl instead of Bosco’s stadium.

is there another Trinity/USA game scheduled besides Bosco v SFA?

You can't trust MaxPreps as gospel when it comes to schedules this early, no matter how often they are updating. At least not until a month or two before season.  And there will be no other Trinity Showcase game. I think that ship has sailed, at least this year. Who knows what will happen for the future, but MD is better off stay home when you keep hearing how important it is to collect that home gate $$.
