For many years we have played semifinal games on the road despite being the #1 seed. The CIF believes all teams should have equal opportunity to have a home game. Makes the regular season less meaningful. I know it’s ridiculous, but don’t waste your time trying to make sense of what the CIF does. I can understand the CIF rule of playing the the potential MD/Centennial game at Centennial because they are playing at Mission, and we have a home game against Sierra Canyon this coming weekend. BUT, to have the location of a potential MD/Mission game be based on a coin flip defies all logic. Both MD and Mission are home teams this coming weekend, so why the hell shouldn’t MD automatically be the home team should they play in the semifinals based on their #1 seed. acheaja8 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Agreed. If we have to play away, C10 facility sucks compared to MV’s. Quote

SMH That’s even worse than the Alabama rules. If a 3 seed wins first round, they are guaranteed to be home. If a four seed wins then they are home if they play a 2 seed but away if they play a three seed. None of this matters if you play someone from your own region though which makes sense, but if that is the case then why isn’t it like that every other round. 1 Quote

Another prime example of non-athletes making decisions for athletes. 1 Quote

For example we were a three seed because we lost two region games. We had to travel four hours for the first round of the playoffs just to win 70-14 because they changed the playoff system. Instead of north and south being separate and then meeting in the state championship they mixed them together. (For context only region 2 or 3 have ever been any good) Now in the second round, we play the 4 seed from region 3 so we are at home because we are a three seed. Then next round, we either play Opelika on the road or Hoover at home because Hoover will have not traveled and we have. It’s stupid and I play on a team that benefits from it this year. We lost two games we shouldn’t have but we get rewarded for it. Edited November 11, 2024 by Centralpc Quote

Texasball Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Texas only guarantees home advantage for the first round. After that the game location is negotiable and can be determined by coin flip. Quote
Bodysurf Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 Mission coach has same opinion as people that know football in Cali. "Calling it the public school Superbowl is too much," Mission Viejo coach Chad Johnson said. "But I will say this: I think the three best teams in California are on the same side of the Division 1 bracket in Mater Dei, Centennial and us." https://www.si.com/high-school/california/centennial-vs-mission-viejo-football-playoff-game-feels-like-public-school-superbowl-01jcf3c0mty8 2 1 Quote
